Sketchbook

Remember to purchase a sketchbook and bring it to class for the beginning of Semester 2!

It can be a "black book" like the one I showed in class (hardbound). You can get them for $8-15 at Fred Meyer or Art Media (depending on the size you choose).

Or it can be a wirebound sketchbook like the ones on the Integrated Art bookshelves.

It should not be lined paper - it should be blank for sketching and drawing.

Merci!

Project Post - Additional Notes

Please read the post below - most of you have already posted to your blogs by the deadline. Thank you.
Those of you who have not...need to do so today. Read through carefully - you need to respond to each of these, including critiquing your own project using the Elements and Principles of Design as a foundation.

Also, this is a link to a folder of images from the Friday before break. Choose 3-5 of these images that are representative of your project. Post these on your blog as well (same post).

When you have completed the write-up on your own, go to the other blogs and respond to each of their projects. You do not need to respond in the same amount of detail as you did on your own, but you should come up with a short, constructive paragraph assessing their project, also using the Principles and Elements of Design as a basis.

Pre-Holiday Project

BEFORE CHRISTMAS BREAK (please post to your blog by December 22:

Write about what you have learned on this project - answer the following questions. Please be thoughtful and specific in your response.

1. First of all, what did you make? What is it?
2. Write out your process in detail - how did you make it?
3. What tools, materials, and equipment did you use?
4. What skill were you focused on developing or learning?
5. What did you particularly enjoy about the process? What was challenging or difficult?
6. What do you think you did well on with this project?

Critique your project in terms of the Principles and Elements of Design. Be specific. Did you push yourself to learn something new? Did you make deliberate choices in making and designing your project? Did you follow through with what you said you would? Has it made you want to learn more in that specific area?

AFTER CHRISTMAS BREAK:
Upload at least one photograph of the project you have been working on the last week (you can upload multiple photos if you want). We will provide you the photographs you took of your project and you can choose which ones to upload to your blog.

When you have uploaded and written about your own project, go to your classmates' blogs (via your Google Reader account). Comment and constructively critique them, keeping in mind the Principles and Elements of Design. What do you really like about what they have done? Write on their blogs.

11.17

You will be putting the final touches on your Art History posters* today and giving Mr. Jonny group presentations based on what you have learned and created.

Remember to give each group your full attention as they are presenting. At the conclusion of each presentation, please give each group some constructive feedback as to how they could improve their presentation...this is relevant, because each group will be presenting again on Friday - and they will be recorded on video. So use this as an opportunity to rehearse!

You will also be finishing up your "Favorite Place at PAA" posters you started a few weeks ago - please use the oil pastels to begin adding color to your drawings. We will begin a more in-depth look at Color starting the week after Thanksgiving, so let's start getting warmed up!

We are weary of phrases such as "I'm done" and "there's not really anything else I can do on this." What is important in this class is not Perfection. It is Progress. And you do not Progress without Practice. This is a learning laboratory for you to not only learn new skills, but to hone and refine your existing ones. We encourage you to ask for feedback from your classmates about what you might do to improve your work-in-progress. Telling us that you are "done" is not a response we smile upon.  So please: weary us no more with that phrase. We will let you know when you are "done."

Have a terrific class!

11.02 Perspective

The last couple weeks we have been talking about Perspective. You have been working in small groups to create posters for 1-point, 2-point, and 3-point perspective, as well as one for vanishing point.

Today, you will finish those up and prepare to present in class on Wednesday.
